About Us

Kanchana is a legacy born from perseverance, craftsmanship, and an enduring love for Indian textiles. Long before the brand was formally established, our founder, Late Shri Om Prakash Gourisaria, began his journey by personally purchasing fabrics, dyeing sarees with his own hands, and going door to door to sell them. This grassroots beginning laid the foundation for a philosophy that continues to define Kanchana today—deep respect for craft, fabric, and authenticity.

Legacy

Kanchana was formally established in 1968 by Late Shri Om Prakash Gourisaria, with a modest store in Ram Mandir, Kolkata. The early years were dedicated exclusively to hand block–printed sarees, and soon after, in pursuit of scale without compromising artistry, printing factories were set up in Sodepur, Kolkata. As textile techniques evolved, Kanchana expanded into screen printing, and at our Sodepur facility, we further strengthened our capabilities by setting up advanced digital printing machines, allowing for greater design precision and depth while retaining the brand’s artistic integrity.

Vision

Today, Kanchana is best known for its printed sarees, unstitched suits, and embroidered sarees, each reflecting a balance of design innovation and textile heritage. While the industry has seen a widespread shift toward artificial and viscose fabrics sourced from China and Surat, Kanchana has remained committed to pure fabrics, preserving the cultural and tactile essence of Indian clothing—an ethos quietly but firmly embedded in every collection.

At its core, Kanchana is driven by creativity. The owners of the brand are as much designers as they are businessmen, personally involved in the creative process, ensuring that each piece carries originality, thoughtful detailing, and strong design identity.

Building on this legacy, Kanchana also introduced its sister company, Kanchana Next, catering to contemporary wardrobes with readymade garments, including Indo-westerns and lehengas, while retaining the brand’s signature craftsmanship and design sensibility.

For over five decades, Kanchana has stood for authenticity, innovation, and timeless Indian elegance—continuing a journey that began with one man, a few dyed sarees, and an unwavering belief in craftsmanship.
